This year has been a remarkable one for PillarCare, filled with incredible achievements and meaningful projects. One of our primary goals has been to increase our involvement with the local community and raise awareness about live-in care – what it entails and the many benefits it offers.
From being named finalists in nationally recognised care awards to actively participating in local events and national initiatives, here’s a glimpse at PillarCare’s proudest moments from this year.
Highlights from 2024
Finalists in the Dementia Care Awards and Great British Care Awards
We are honoured to have been selected as finalists in both the Dementia Care Awards and the Great British Care Awards, and for the recognition these accolades bestow upon our carers for their hard work and dedication. We are very proud of our carers Violet, Robert, Jesuina and Sharon and their steadfast commitment to delivering compassionate and personalised care to the highest standard for our clients.
Community Engagement
At PillarCare, staying connected with our local community is vitally important for raising awareness for the work we do, as well as making sure our clients continue to be recognised as valued members of the community. Here are a few highlights of recent community events we have actively participated in.
• Hampstead Heath Summer Festival: This exciting day out was a chance to connect with Hampstead residents and share valuable advice about PillarCare’s services as well as offering free care advice. Amongst all the craft and food stalls, it was a fantastic opportunity to support our community and give residents the chance to come and talk to us in a friendly, open environment.
• Hampstead Heath Art Fair & Garden Party: At this smaller, but no less important event, we celebrated creativity while advocating for holistic care. Supporting mental, emotional, and social well-being is just as vital as providing physical care, and we were proud to champion this message.
• Primrose Hill Christmas Fair: This festive celebration allowed us to engage with even more members of the local community, spreading even more awareness about care. We also raised money for a dementia charity that has worked closely with our clients, and in doing so, helped to give back to the community.
Raising Dementia Awareness
This summer, PillarCare participated in two meaningful initiatives to raise awareness about dementia.
• Camden School for Girls: We delivered an engaging presentation to 300 A-level students, sharing valuable insights and key facts about dementia. Our goal was to help students better understand the condition and to provide information to help support relatives who may be diagnosed with dementia.
• The Lost Life of Tilly MacLeod: Before the launch of this powerful play on living with dementia, we presented to the public, educating them on the condition and offering guidance to help families navigate its challenges.
We were honoured to support these efforts in shedding light on dementia’s impact and promoting understanding.
Fundraising Success
At PillarCare, our dedication to making a difference extends beyond direct care. We are passionate about supporting important causes through fundraising efforts. Some recent initiatives include:
• Walking for Dementia UK: In February, our team took on the Walk a Kilometre a Day Challenge, raising funds for Dementia UK. Coming together daily to walk not only strengthened our team spirit but also helped raise awareness about dementia and the importance of specialised care.
• Matt’s 100-Day Push-Up Challenge: April saw our Registered Manager Matt complete a 100-a-day push-up challenge for the whole month in support of Cancer Research UK. His perseverance was truly motivational to our entire team, and we’re proud of the funds he raised for such an important cause.
• Elf Day 2024 for Alzheimer’s Society: For December’s Elf Day, we proudly supported the Alzheimer’s Society, a cause that means so much to us. With our desks adorned in festive Christmas tinsel, we embraced the holiday spirit, spreading joy while raising awareness and funds for those affected by Alzheimer’s. It was a day of fun and festivity, all with the meaningful purpose of making a difference in the fight against dementia.
New in 2024: PillarCare Daily Surgery
This September, we launched a daily advice surgery, offering professional guidance on care-related matters. Every day from 2–4 pm, our manager Matt is available to provide expert support to anyone seeking advice, whether about our services or about care services in general and how to access support at home as well as funding to help cover care costs.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this year’s successes, we remain committed to improving care, supporting our community, and embracing new opportunities.
Thank you to our incredible team, clients, and their families for making this year so memorable.
Here’s to another year of making a genuine difference!
